BIOGRAPHY

Naz Yilmaz (b. 1998) is a multi-disciplinary artist born and raised in Istanbul, Turkiye, currently living and working in New York. She received her degree in Fine Art & Art History (B.A) from Pace University. Upon graduating, she concentrated on a large-scale series of textile-focused sculptures called ‘Vortex’ and participated in The Global Shapers Community to raise awareness around textile waste in manufacturing. Her work is rooted at the intersection of time and space, exploring cross-cultural liminal structures. Delving into socio-political and psychological themes, she explores complexities of the human condition as influenced by her childhood and upbringing. Her mother was a child development specialist, and Yilmaz cared for children with disabilities from an early age. Her father was a geological engineer who specialized in plastics manufacturing, inspiring her initial exploration of jewelry design and later use of plastic-based substances in her art. Yilmaz channels a lineage of traditional Anatolian makers as she blends historical and modern materials to explore themes of sensory perception across natural and man-made structures.
